A Lifetime Chasing Fish

Fishing has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up in South Africa, I was fortunate to experience an incredible variety of fisheries that sparked a lifelong passion for understanding fish, refining techniques, and preparing for every trip.

That passion eventually took me far beyond my home waters. Over the years I've fished throughout Southern Africa, Mauritius, Nigeria, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden's Arctic Circle, the United States, and across Canada. Every destination offered different species, different conditions, and new lessons.

No matter where I fished, one thing remained constant: success belonged to the anglers who prepared the best.

Experience Forged Around the World

Fishing has taken me farther than I ever imagined. What began in South Africa as a lifelong passion eventually led me to fish across Southern Africa, Mauritius, Nigeria, Portugal, the United Kingdom, Ireland, the Arctic Circle in northern Sweden, the United States, and throughout Canada.

Each destination offered new species, new challenges, and valuable lessons. Competitive fishing taught me that success is rarely determined by luck, it comes from preparation. The small details, often decided before the first cast, can be the difference between landing a trophy fish and watching it disappear.

Those lessons became even more meaningful while managing a fly-in fishing lodge in the remote wilderness of northern Saskatchewan. Every week, anglers travelled thousands of miles in search of the fish of a lifetime, and every week our guides relied on equipment they trusted completely. There was no room for weak connections or unreliable tackle.

It was there that fluorocarbon proved itself time and time again. We watched it consistently deliver natural presentations while standing up to the abrasive teeth and powerful runs of giant northern pike, helping guests land fish exceeding 50 inches.

Years of fishing around the world had taught me the importance of quality equipment. Northern Saskatchewan showed me exactly what that equipment should look like. The principles that guided our success on those remote lakes, strength, stealth, and absolute reliability, became the foundation that Water Forged Fishing Tackle is built on today.

After years of building leaders for the lodge, friends, and fellow anglers, I noticed a recurring problem.

Quality fluorocarbon leaders were surprisingly difficult to find. The few that were available were often inconsistent, overpriced, or built with components I wouldn't personally trust.

Building your own leaders isn't as simple as buying a spool of fluorocarbon. Finding the right swivels, snaps, crimps, and tools, and knowing which combinations work together, takes time, experience, and testing.

I founded Water Forged Fishing Tackle to remove those barriers. Every leader is built so anglers can spend less time searching for dependable gear and more time doing what they came to do: fish with confidence.

Every Water Forged leader is built in Saskatchewan, Canada.

From selecting premium Japanese fluorocarbon to matching each leader with carefully chosen swivels, snaps, knots or crimps, every component is chosen for one reason: reliability.

Each finished leader is individually inspected before it ever reaches your tackle box.

There are no production lines, no shortcuts, and no compromises, just premium craftsmanship built on years of real-world experience.

Because when that fish of a lifetime finally bites, confidence matters.
